Designing and Establishing Food Logistics Safety System in China

- Abstract
- This paper reviews the problems confronting the food logistics system in safeguarding food quality in China, which include incomplete food logistics system failing to guarantee food quality, backward logistics facilities, equipment and technical means, incomplete cold supply chain logistics service system, absence of logistics technical standards and backward monitoring technology, etc. China’s food logistics safety system shall be constructed with three parts: safety system of each sectors of the food supply chain, food safety credit information system and food safety tracking system. On setting up and operating China’s food logistics safety system, the three key players, i.e., government, industry organizations and each nodal enterprises of food supply chain, shall be in close collaboration to guarantee whole process of food safety. In the meanwhile, quality monitoring and management agencies shall be established and dominated by core enterprises, responsible for the quality of entire food supply chain. And China also needs to improve food logistics technology, intensify standardization, reinforce the cold chain logistics service to cultivate the food logistics safety system, ensuring food safety from "farm to fork".
