Abstract

The marine biomaterials - cyclina sinensis has unique structures and excellent performances. The static contact angles of cuticle surface, prismatic layer surface and nacre surface in cyclina sinensis are measured and the results show that the three surfaces are hydrophilic. The microstructure of cyclina sinensis surface is observed, then the hydrophilic mechanism of prismatic layer surface in cyclina sinensis is analyzed and the result indicates that it is accord with Wenzel model. The surface roughnesses of cuticle surface, prismatic layer surface and nacre surface in cyclina sinensis are measured and they show a decreasing trend from outside to inside. The bond strength between the cuticle and prismatic of cyclina sinensis is researched and it is obtained that three failure modes of scratches that are cuticle debonding cuticle in-layer cracking and cuticle buckling damage appear in the cuticle of cyclina sinensis. The study on surface characteristics of cyclina sinensis will provide theoretical references for marine anti-corrosion coating development.
