Design and Radiation Characteristics Analysis of DME Beacon Antenna

Abstract
Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) is an important part of land-based navigation system. The beacon antenna of DME is linear biconical antenna array which consists of 1-11 wide band (960-1215MHz) biconical antennas. In this paper, by means of the HFSS simulation technology based on the finite element method, the radiation characteristics of linear biconical antenna array are studied. According to the simulation result of linear bi-conical antenna array, the method of antenna pattern shaped and the specifications recommended by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a DME beacon antenna is designed. And the radiation characteristics of DME beacon antenna are also be studied.
