Abstract
The networking product industry has been characterized by high variation of demand, cut-throat competition from markets, high level of quality assurance, quick response to customer demand, as well as pressure for shortening delivery time. It is vital for networking product manufacturers to launch new products promptly and reduce inventory and production costs. In this study, a shop flow information system is proposed in order to enhance networking product manufacturers’ competitiveness. The proposed shop flow information system is developed by using advanced shop flow control devices and auto-identification tools and then integrated with enterprise resources planning (ERP) systems to provide information-integrated real-time and on-the-spot monitor systems, which can further reinforce ERP functions. The developed shop floor information system is implemented in a local networking product manufacturing company. Oracle AIM software was customized to demonstrate the whole structure of the information-integrated system. The implementation of shop floor information system enables the company to gain significant improvements for the process of ordering, material purchasing, manufacturing, and shipping.
