Abstract
Quality Management, with its widespread global acknowledgement is becoming a necessity in the IT sector today. With the availability of a multitude of initiatives that can yield continuous improvement in organizational performance, an increasing number of companies are seeking to increase competitive advantage via improved management of quality. Despite its prevalent practice, most quality initiatives end at a standstill or take too long in implementation and thus fail. This paper serves to establish the possible resistance factors to the successful implementation of such initiatives as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 9000) standard, Capability Maturity Model (CMM), Integrated Capability Maturity Model (CMM-I), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Six Sigma in the IT sector in Malaysia and how to overcome these barriers.
